When we think about beard culture, we often don't think about the moustache as a part of that conversation. In some ways, that's fair. I mean, technically, a beard is defined as hair growing on the cheeks and chin. No mention of the upper lips.
All that said, I'd argue that the moustache, although specifically defined as hair on the upper lip, needs to be embraced as an important part of beard culture and the beard community. And for one simple reason; the creators behind those beards and moustaches share an important value. The need to explore through facial hair. I guess that's the catch-all phrase, facial hair. But that's a pretty awkward term. And while these sub-communities may enjoy the distinctions between each other the same way skiers do versus snowboarders, there's no denying that when you see a brother on the street trying out a new style on his face, you understand the journey he's going on. And it's those shared experiences that us similar.
Welcome to the beard club my moustachioed friend.
